Subseries II.2.3. Community Planning and Relations, 1949, 1957-1967, 1957-1967, 1949
- Scope and content:
-
contains material on community relations and planning that is not specifically related to University committees. Most of the planning material is related to the University's proposed expansion in the Morningside Heights neighborhood, but there is also some material on the Manhattanville, or Piers, area. Many of the records are related to either specific buildings or Morningside Heights, Inc. (MHInc., which later became the Morningside Area Alliance). MHInc. was founded in 1947 to provide collective urban and community planning for Morningside Heights and Manhattanville; its members are drawn from the area's major institutions. The Vice President's office was responsible for MHInc., and Chamberlain served on its board of directors. These files include board of directors' material, correspondence, reports, and records for the community program and executive committees.
Files on specific buildings contain general information about several Columbia University buildings--clippings, street patrol reports, and documentation of the date of purchase, use, and occupancy of the buildings.
