The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, sermons and publications covering much of the adult life of Sam Franklin, including extensive correspondence with and by his wife, Dorothy Franklin.
- Biographical / historical:

The career of Sam Horace Franklin, Jr., included stints as: missionary for the Presbyterian Church in Japan; director and pastor of Delta and Providence Cooperative Farms (in Mississippi); chaplain in the US Naval Reserve; acting secretary for the Board of Foreign Missions, Presbyterian Church of the USA; and, Professor of Social Ethics at Tokyo Union Theological Seminary. Dorothy Franklin, Sam's wife, did mission work for the Presbyterian Church in Japan and taught English and served as Dean of Women at Tokyo Union Theological Seminary.
