Restricted personal correspondence, personal correspondence, annotated carbon copy of book chapter, annotated copy of Rembrandt als Erzieher, and miscellaneous correspondence, 1880-1890s, from Munster, German ambassador to London. (0.46 linear foot).

Biographical / historical:

Prominant historian best known for two highly influential books: "The Politics of Cultural Despair" (1961), which traced the origins of Nazi antisemitism through a study of three far-right authors in late 19th-century Germany, and "Gold and Iron: Bismarck, Bleichröder and the Building of the German Empire" (1977), which traced the relationship between the founder of imperial Germany and his banker.

Eight boxes are located off-site. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.
