This collection contains Charles Cotton Kimball's bound manuscript notebooks detailing lectures at Union Theological Seminary from 1859 – 1862. The volumes describe Dr. Edward Robinson's lectures on Old Testament and New Testament history, Dr. R.D. Hitchcock's lectures on Church History, Dr. H.B. Smith's lectures on Systematic Theology and the Trinity, and Dr. T.H. Skinner's lectures on the Church and Pastoral Theology,and also include Dr. Hitchcock's recommended book list for a clergyman's library.

Biographical / historical:

Charles Cotton Kimball was born on May 20, 1834 in Newport, New Hampshire. He graduated from Beloit College in 1859 before attending Union Theological Seminary and graduating in 1862. He became licensed to preach in 1862, then was ordained as an Evangelist by the Third Presbytery in New York on September 11, 1863. Reverend Kimball served as acting pastor at various locations from 1863 to 1903, including First Church in Erie, Pennsylvania, Second Church in Bennington, Vermont, and locations in New York City, Washington, DC, and Mt. Holly, New Jersey. Kimball died in 1905.
