The Benjamin Waugh papers mainly consist of photographs that documented the National Revolution Army's Northern Expedition in various northern cities in China dating from 1927 to 1928. Other materials include letters, a grocery company's income, and photographic postcards depicting sceneries in China.

The Benjamin Waugh papers include two letters with envelopes from Baldwin Lee from 1925 and 1933, six undated photographic postcards, an account of a grocery company's income in Chinese, a Kodak film envelope, and fifty-two photographs of the National Revolution Army in various Chinese cities during the Northern Expedition, dating from 1925-1933, with the bulk dates from 1927 to 1928. The photographs in the papers depict the everyday life of soldiers from the National Republican Army (國民革命軍) as well as official photographs from the Photograph Department, Airplane Brigade, Aviation Division of the National Revolution Army Headquarters (國民革命軍總司令部航空處飛機隊攝影科製品).

Biographical / historical:

Benjamin Waugh was admitted to Columbia University in 1917, but he later withdrew. Baldwin Lee (Traditional Chinese: 李寶榮; Simplified Chinese: 李宝荣) received his degree from the Teacher's College at Columbia University. After returning to China, he was a faculty member of the Department of Education at Lingnan University (嶺南大學) from the late 1920s to 1930s. He also served as the chairman of the department during his tenure at Lingnan University.
