Scope and content:

Correspondence, manuscripts and page proofs. The correspondence includes 12 letters from Roland Barthes, 1963-1978, concerning French literature in French and American universities, and one letter from Charles Maurras and his comments on Roudiez's Columbia University dissertation (1950), CHARLES MAURRAS: GENESIS OF A REACTION; also a typescript of the translation and revision of the dissertation, MAURRAS JUSQU'À L'ACTION FRANC̦AISE, published in Paris in 1957. In addition, there are several typescript drafts and page proofs all with holograph corrections for Roudiez's translations of Julia Kristeva's DESIRE IN LANGUAGE (New York: Columbia University Press, 1980) and POWERS OF HORROR (New York: Columbia University Press, 1982); and the typescript for Roudiez's book FRENCH FICTION TODAY(New Brunswick: Rutgers University Press, 1972)

1992 Addition: 4 letters from Jean Albert Bédé, 1 letter from Albert Camus, 7 letters from Henri Massis, and 1 letter from Henri Peyre have been added.
