Scope and content:

Printed material and some correspondence related to low rental housing and tenements in New York City. Included are business records concerning the rental and maintenance of tenements.

Biographical / historical:

Merchant in Brooklyn, N.Y. White did a study of homes of the laboring classes and , in 1876, erected the first successful improved tenement homes in the country.
