Biographical / historical:

Librarian and editor. Varner was a children's librarian and editor of children's books at Harcourt Brace & Co., 1946-1953, at G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1953-1955, at William Morrow Co., 1955-1956, at World Publishing Co., 1956-1964, and at The Viking Press, 1964-1972.
