Subseries I.3:Geographical Correspondence, 1931-1949

Scope and content:

Letters in this series come from the early years of NSANL, and most relate to its efforts to boycott Nazi Germany. It includes letters sent to community leaders, especially rabbis, urging them to create local branches in their cities and to participate in the larger boycott. The letters discuss possible structure and strategy for managing the boycott and address the concerns that the boycott would lead to backlash against Jewish communities. There are also invitations to and information about the Conference of Jewish Leaders, requests for boycott materials from interested individuals, and correspondence with other anti-Nazi groups. The series carefully preserves entire conversations, with both incoming mail and copies of outgoing mail present and in order. Files are arranged by state and further subdivided by city. There is a smaller amount of international correspondence at the end of the series, arranged by country.
