Scope and content:

Correspondence, Halsband's chemistry dissertation, articles on chemistry, Columbia University memorabilia, photographs, and drawings. There are many letters from Professor Halsband concerning the progress of his books. Letters to and from her family and from her friends have been added. Correspondents include Samuel Hopkins Adams, Samuel Atkins Eliot, Jr., and Italo Montemezzi.

Biographical / historical:

Research chemist. Ruth Alice Norman Weil Halsband was the wife of Professor Robert Halsband. (Smith College A.B., 1922; Columbia Ph.D., 1946).

The following boxes are located offsite: 2 and 3. You will need to request this material from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.
