Scope and content:

Mimeographed documents and office papers of the Commission on Freedom of the Press, 1943-1946, whose investigations and researches led ultimately to the publication of its general report, A FREE AND RESPONSIBLE PRESS, 1947, and six subsidiary reports. The documents primarily include reports of the deliberations of the commission, memoranda prepared by its members, statements by informants at meetings and interviews, and drafts for the books which it eventually published. The Office papers consist of personal notes, correspondence, and clippings. In addition there are notes on the history of the Federal Communications Commission, 1927-1946, and some related notes and other materials.

Biographical / historical:

The Commission on Freedom of the Press, 1943-1946, led to the publication of its general report, A Free and Responsible Press (1947) and six subsidiary reports.
