Scope and content:

The collection contains Ivan's memoirs, written in Russian, from that period. Valentyna Shali is represented in the collection by a published anthology of Ukrainian folk tales in French translation and by an unpublished Ukrainian manuscript on the political and economic history of modern-day Eastern Europe.

Biographical / historical:

Ivan Ivanovich and Valentyna Pavlovna Shali, husband and wife, were originally from KharkĖov and since World War II residents in France. Ivan Shali, a veterinarian, experienced first hand, between 1930 and 1940, life in Siberian prison camps. Valentyna Shali is an economist.
