Aleksandr Grigor'evich Chesnokov (pseudonyms: Al. Daleau, Al. Tchayss; 1880, Moscow - 1941, Paris), prolific choir composer, choir conductor, music critic, teacher, professor (1919), younger brother of the famous Russian church composer and conductor Pavel Chesnokov. In 1899 graduated with excellence from the Moscow Synodal School of Church Singing. Continued his education in Petrograd Conservatory (Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov class), which he completed in 1906. In 1923 emigrated to Prague, where he conducted the Russian Student Chorus named after Aleksandr Arkhangelskii. Then settled down in Paris. Lectured in the Russian Conservatory and taught church singing in the Sviato-Sergievskii Bogoslovskii Institute, made music-hall arrangements for a publishing company, wrote his own music. Buried in France at the Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois.
