Scope and content:

This collection focuses primarily on human rights violations in eastern Europe. Files on Bosnia cover elections, UN efforts, land mine removal, and many other issues through press releases, publications, and AI reports. Other files, labeled "executive branch" or "congress," concern the US government's response, or lack thereof, to events in the region. They contain memoranda and reports from house and senate committee meetings, White House press releases, and correspondence between Greenwood-Basken and government officials and other advocates.

Biographical / historical:

Maureen Greenwood-Basken is a human rights activist with expertise in US foreign policy. She studied Psychology and Slavic Studies at the University of Michigan and received a master's degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago. Greenwood-Basken served as AIUSA's Advocacy Director for Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East from 1998 to 2000, as well as Advocacy Director for Europe, Central Asia, and selected global issues from 2001 to 2008 and Managing Director of Government Relations and Advocacy Development from 2008 to 2009.
