Scope and content:

The September 11, 2001 oral history collection documents the events and aftermath of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The Columbia Center for Oral History moved quickly to begin documenting this event following the attacks with the initial interviews taking place later that year. This makes the collection an important snapshot how people experienced the day and perceived its events in the years immediately following the attacks. The collection is made up of four series, based on the projects that were undertaken to examine different facets of the tragedy: the Narrative and Memory project, the Response and Recovery project, the Public Health project, and the Telling Lives project. Additional information about the collection will be added to this record in the near future.
