Scope and content:

The collection consists primarily of printouts of journal articles, his books (in English and Asian language translations), some correspondence, tributes, and about 14 binders he labelled as "VITA" which contain his published articles in chronological order. Material dates between the 1960s and the 2010s.

Biographical / historical:

Wally Broecker was the Newberry Professor of Geology in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. He was also a scientist at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, and an Academic Committee member of the Earth Institute. An alumnus of Columbia, Broecker. He received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Columbia University. His earned his doctorate in geology in 1958 and was appointed to the Columbia faculty in 1959.
