Scope and content:

In the first session, Indira talks about her family and her birth. She then discusses her sports life, her participation in the Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE), and her relationship with the judo team. Indira discusses the economic and housing problems on the island. She also discusses health and education. Indira comments on her family's santeria practices. Finally, she speaks pejoratively about homosexuality.

In the second session, Indira discusses the construction of her house. Indira comments that she is waiting for a state retirement pension because she is no longer working as an athlete. She then discusses racism on the island, especially in tourist areas, and the fetishization of Black women. Indira discusses the differences in health care between those who have political connections and those who do not. She also discusses the relationship between politics and sports. In the last session, Indira discusses the political situation in Cuba

En la primera sesión, Indira dialoga sobre su familia y su nacimiento. Luego, comenta su vida deportiva, su participación en la Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE) y su relación con el equipo de judo. Indira discute los problemas económicos y de vivienda en la isla. También dialoga sobre la salud y la educación. Indira comenta las prácticas santeras de su familia. Biographical / historical:

Indira nació en La Habana, Cuba, en 1979. Cuando era una niña, se incorporó a la Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE). Llegó a competir en judo y atletismo representando a Cuba en diferentes instancias internacionales. Debió retirarse por una lesión. Trabajó como gastronómica en el Hospital Militar. Indira fue entrevistada para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Indira was born in Havana, Cuba in 1979. When she was a child, she joined the Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE). She went on to compete in judo and athletics, representing Cuba in different international competitions. She had to retire due to an injury. She worked as a gastronome at the Military Hospital. Indira was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
