In the interview, Fidel recalls his childhood and his first jobs. Then, he talks about racism, interracial marriages and gender inequalities. He also recalls his participation in different struggles for the Revolution. Fidel discusses the Special Period, the economic blockade and the decriminalization of the dollar. Finally, Fidel discusses religion on the island and censorship

Biographical / historical:

Fidel nació en Pinar del Río, Cuba, en 1935. Su mamá era ama de casa y su padre, militar. Trabajó durante quince años en el Central Azucarero Niágara. En 1962, se mudó a La Habana y comenzó a trabajar en construcción para el Ministerio del Interior. En 1975, participó de la guerra en Angola, en la Rebelión del Escambray y en la Invasión de la Bahía de Cochinos en defensa de la Revolución. Tuvo dos hijos. Fidel fue entrevistado para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Fidel was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba in 1935. His mother was a homemaker and his father was a military man. He worked for fifteen years at the Niagara Sugar Mill. In 1962, he moved to Havana and began working in construction for the Ministry of the Interior. He participated in the war in Angola in 1975, in the Escambray Rebellion and in the Bay of Pigs Invasion in defense of the Revolution. He had two children. Fidel was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
