Scope and content:

In the first session, Georgina talks about her family's farm and her first jobs. She then discusses her first marriage and the violent relationship she had with her daughter's father. Georgina recalls when she was invited to go into exile because of her religious practices. She also discusses racism and the persecution of black people. Georgina describes her religious practices, Santeria in Cuba and the expulsion of homosexuals from Santeria practices. Georgina comments on Fidel Castro's role and economic problems.

In the second session, Georgina relates the history of her family. She then discusses housing problems. Georgina recalls the dispute over parental custody of her daughter. Georgina discusses her allergy problems and the effects of insect spraying. She reflects on the changes in the educational system and Raul Castro's government

En la primera sesión, Georgina dialoga sobre la finca de su familia y sus primeros trabajos. Luego, comenta su primer matrimonio y el vínculo violento que tuvo con el padre de su hija. Georgina recuerda cuando la invitaron a exiliarse producto de sus prácticas religiosas. Georgina discute el concepto de "escoria". También dialoga sobre el racismo y la persecución a las personas negras. Georgina describe sus prácticas religiosas, la santería en Cuba y la expulsión de los homosexuales de las prácticas santeras. Georgina comenta el rol de Fidel Castro y los problemas económicos.

Biographical / historical:

Georgina nació en 1951 en Yara, Cuba. Su familia tenía una finca. A los trece años, comenzó a trabajar en una farmacia. Se casó por primera vez en 1968 y tuvo una hija. Se divorció en 1971. Luego del divorcio, tuvo varios enfrentamientos judiciales con su ex marido por la guarda de su hija. Georgina es santera, razón por la cual fue invitada a exiliarse por parte del gobierno cubano. Entre 1980 y 1986, administró una lechería. Luego, tuvo una peluquería en su casa. Georgina se casó otras cuatro veces. Georgina fue entrevistada para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Georgina was born in 1951 in Yara, Cuba. Her family owned a farm. At the age of thirteen, she began working in a pharmacy. She married for the first time in 1968 and had a daughter. She divorced in 1971. After the divorce, she had several legal confrontations with her ex-husband over the custody of her daughter. Georgina is a santera, which is why she was invited to go into exile by the Cuban government. Between 1980 and 1986, she managed a dairy. Later, she ran a hairdresser's shop in her home. Georgina married four other times. Georgina was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
