Scope and content:

Katia begins the first session by talking about her birth and astrology. Katia describes the various jobs she held while commenting on the labor difficulties she had to face as a woman. She then discusses her family, the relationship that each of her relatives established with the Revolution, migrations, and Operation Peter Pan. Katia discusses motherhood.

In the second session, Katia discusses her first love. She then describes the feminine mandates that were imposed on her. Later, she again discusses motherhood, her link with contraceptives, and her marriage. Katia tells the story of her first relationship with a woman and the conflict she had with her ex-husband because of this bond. Katia recalls the episode in which an anonymous letter was sent to the government indicating that she was a lesbian and the meetings of the People's Power dedicated to her identity

Katia comienza la primera sesión dialogando sobre su nacimiento y astrología. Katia describe los diversos trabajos que realizó mientras comenta las dificultades laborales que tuvo que enfrentar por ser mujer. Luego, dialoga sobre su familia, la relación que cada uno de sus familiares estableció con la Revolución, las migraciones y la Operación Peter Pan. Katia dialoga sobre la maternidad.

Biographical / historical:

Katia nació en Trinidad, Cuba, en 1943. Debió empezar a trabajar a los catorce años. Participó de la Juventud Rebelde. Su primer trabajo fue como mecanógrafa. Luego, ingresó al Ministerio de la Construcción. Durante 1962, participó de las brigadas de alfabetización. En 1963, trabajó en el Primer Congreso de Arquitectos e Ingenieros de Cuba. Luego, comenzó a trabajar como contadora en el Instituto de Industria Turística. En 1981, se recibió de economista. Fue Jefa del Departamento de Sistema y Directora de Economía del Instituto de Investigación en Estadística. Realizó posgrados en Estadística. Fue delegada del Poder Popular durante nueve años. Fue Jefa del Programa de Proyecto Provincial de Cultura. Katia se casó en 1968 y tuvo dos hijos. En 1988, se divorció de su esposo y se emparejó con una mujer, con quien mantuvo una relación durante diecisiete años. Katia fue entrevistada para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Katia was born in Trinidad, Cuba in 1943. She had to start working at the age of fourteen. She was a member of the Juventud Rebelde. Her first job was as a typist. Later, she joined the Ministry of Construction. In 1962, she participated in the literacy brigades. In 1963, she worked in the First Congress of Architects and Engineers of Cuba. Later, she began working as an accountant at the Institute of Tourism Industry. In 1981, she graduated as an Economist. She was Head of the System Department and Director of Economics at the Institute of Statistical Research. She took postgraduate courses in Statistics. She was a delegate of the People's Power for nine years. She was Head of the Provincial Culture Project Program. Katia married in 1968 and had two children. In 1988, she divorced her husband and married a woman, with whom she had a relationship for seventeen years. Katia was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
