In the interview, Niurka recalls her mother's upbringing and the bond she has with her. Then, Niurka reflects on the careers she started but could not finish due to the difficulties of studying while being a mother. Niurka talks about the Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar and about her jobs

Biographical / historical:

Niurka nació en La Habana, Cuba, en 1962. Se formó en la Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE) en Atletismo. Quiso estudiar Medicina, pero el nacimiento de su hijo en 1981 no se lo permitió. Cuando estaba estudiando para ser técnica media en personal de mecanización, nació su segundo hijo, por lo que debió abandonar esa carrera también. Trabajó en una fábrica de camisas. También fue auxiliar pedagógica en escuelas primarias. Niurka fue entrevistada para el proyecto que culminó en la publicación del libro How Things Fall Apart. El nombre es un seudónimo para el proyecto

Niurka was born in Havana, Cuba in 1962. She was trained in Athletics at the Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar (EIDE). She wanted to study Medicine, but the birth of her son in 1981 did not allow it. When she was studying to become an intermediate technician in mechanization personnel, her second son was born, so she had to abandon that career as well. She worked in a shirt factory. She was also a teaching assistant in elementary schools. Niurka was interviewed for the project that led to the book How Things Fall Apart. The name is a pseudonym for the project
