Helen S. Witty is a cook-book author, former editor at Cuisine and Food & Wine magazines, Born Helen Stroop, Witty interrupted her education at UCLA to join the Women's Army Corps during World War Two. After the war, she returned to complete her studies in English at Columbia's School of General Studies, graduating in 1949. She went to work for Columbia University Press for a few years afterward, and lived on the Upper West Side from her Columbia days until about 1982-83. Witty was a prolific author and contributor to magazines and newspapers.
