Podkarpatska Rus Photograph Album, 1934-1936
Collection context

- 1 item (Handmade scrapbook album)

- English .
- Scope and content:
-
A documentary photograph album apparently relating to three tourist trips made by a group of Czech travelers to Carpathian Ruthenia in 1934, 1935 and 1936. Though the album is heavily titled in pen throughout, the identity of the travelers and the artist responsible for the album's creation are not noted. Clearly, however, the artist had been touched by the swirling winds of constructivism which passed through Central Europe and particularly Czechoslovakia in this period, as the design and arrangement of the album manage to quite successfully capture their currents. Depicted are Volové, Boržava, the salaši of the Vlach herdsmen, Filipec and its Rusyns, Sinovír (Ozero), Koločava, Brustury, Rusyn Churches, Turbacil, Okula, Jasina, Views in Černé Tise (just before the Sabbath), the Hutsuls of Jasina, Šešul, -- while the album closes with (8) printed color postcards of views from locations around Podkarpatska.
