Dmitrii Savitskii was born in Russia in 1944. In 1964, he was expelled from a very prestigious university in Moscow for writing an anti-Soviet novel entitled 'The Draft". He fled to the West in 1978 and lived in Paris until his death in April 2019. His first published novel was published in France, his latest novels were finally published in Russian. Brilliantly inventive and baroquely detailed, his novels are merciless satire of middle-class Soviet manners and ambitions.
