Scope and content:

This is a small collection of research work consisting of correspondence and copies of materials collected by Geraldine De Courcy for her published biography of Paganini and for her unpublished biography of Joachim. The papers also give details of the problems that followed her death, given that her will was not properly witnessed and could not be probated.

Biographical / historical:

Harold R. Lineback of St. Louis, Missouri, purchased the literary portion of the estate of Geraldine I. C. De Courcy, best known as a biographer of Paganini, in 1973, following her death in New York City on July 7, 1969. He was involved with the American Committee of the Institute of Paganini Studies, had been in touch with her since the 1930s, and would become their president in 1980.

This collection is located off-site. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.

Terms of access:

Single photocopies may be made for research purposes. Permission to publish material from the collection must be requested from the Curator of Manuscripts/University Archivist, Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML). The RBML approves permission to publish that which it physically owns; the responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.
