Mostly scores by Harold Brown. There are two letters, 2 CDs, some biogrpahical information, and some Renaissance Chorus Association information.

Biographical / historical:

Harold Brown was instrumental in bringing early music to North America. After completing his musical studies at Columbia University he studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, He founded the Renaissance Chorus of New York, which gave concerts and recorded several records under the direction of Brown from 1952-1975.

The period which comprised his work with Renaissance music, including choral conducting and editing, extended from about 1951 to his death in 1979.

Brown's orchestral scores include: Suite for Strings (1937); piano transcription of a Frescobaldi Passacaglia & Fugue; Introduction & Allegro (Sym. #1), (1938); Orchestral Suite #1; Divertimento for small Orchestra (1945); Four Symphonic Movements (Sym. #2) (1950)--which was also Brown's compositional piece for his Master's degree at Columbia.

This collection is located off-site. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.

Terms of access:

Single photocopies may be made for research purposes. Permission to publish material from the collection must be requested from the Curator of Manuscripts/University Archivist, Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML). The RBML approves permission to publish that which it physically owns; the responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.

The RBML cannot provide access to original time-based media material which has not been first been reformatted for preservation. Researchers are welcome to examine archival time-based media items and decide whether they wish to place an order for Audio/Video reformatting. If copyright and/or condition restrictions apply, it may not be possible to digitize a requested item. Please note that A/V reformatting is handled by an outside vendor and typically takes 6-8 weeks.
