Andrew Blane, retired Professor of History at Lehman College, has been a member of Amnesty International from it's earliest history. In 1974 he became the first American to serve on AI's International Exectuive Committee and was part of the delegation accepting AI's Nobel Peace Prize in 1977. Blane was also awarded the United Nations Prize for human rights work. His papers include material related to Amnesty International's worldwide movement. With Priscilla Ellsworth, Blane conducted a series of oral histories in the 1980s, documenting Amnesty International's early years and the work of its founding leaders. The Oral History Project documents are included in his papers and represent a unique and rare source of documentation. Related collections include the AIUSA archives and the recently acquired papers of Whitney Ellsworth.
