Thomas Nast was a German-born American cartoonist; contributed to Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, New York Illustrated News, and Harper's Weekly; traveled to Europe in 1860; lived in New York City and Morristown, N.J.; appointed consul at Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1902 where he died of yellow fever 07 Dec. 1902.
