The collection contains correspondence, notebooks, drafts, and poems of the Chilean poet and Nobel Laureate, Gabriela Mistral. The collection primarily consists of items from Mistral's archive that have been digitizied onto microfilm. Additionally, the collection contains materials about Gabriela Mistral, her time as an instructor at Columbia University, and items relating to the transfer of her library to the Barnard Archives.

Biographical / historical:

Gabriela Mistral, 1889 - 1957, was a Chilean poet and educator. She was a visiting professor at Barnard College from 1930 - 1931. She was the first Latin American to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1945, for her poetry.
