The collection contains awards, plaques, photographs, political correspondence, clippings and memos. Also included are ephemera, such as commemorative pens celebrating the passage of Goodwin's bills in the New York Senate, and a silver commemorative plate depicting Kingston, New York.

Lee Goodwin, 1930 - 1986, was a Barnard alumna, politician, and president of a mortgage banking company. She graduated from Barnard magna cum laude in 1952. She began her political career as the Assistant to the Chairman of the New York State Joint Legislative Committee on Housing and Community Renewal, eventually becoming the New York State Commissioner of Housing and Community Renewal in 1973. Lee Goodwin assisted in drafting a variety of housing laws, including the Mitchell-Lama middle-income housing law. She served for three years as Commissioner, resigning from the position in 1976.
Following her resignation, Lee Goodwin served as senior vice president of Merrill Lynch Huntoon Page Inc., a subsidiary of Merrill Lynch & Company from 1976 until 1981. In 1981, she was appointed to a Presidential commission on housing. Lee Goodwin passed away in 1986 at the age of 56.
