His correspondents include contemporary authors such as Edmund Blunden, Christopher Hassall, Louis Kronenberger; scholars such as James P. Clifford, Leon Edel, and A.L. Rowse. There are also some letters collected by Halsband, including those by Mrs Piozzi, John Wilkes (1727-1797) and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (1713-1792). Among the manuscripts are notes, drafts, typescripts, and proofs of his LIFE OF LADY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1956) and COMPLETE LETTERS OF LADY MARY WORTLEY MONTAGU (Oxford, 1965-1967). Also, manuscripts and typescripts of Halsband's diaries, journals, lectures, articles, book reviews, and essays. Manuscript account books and documents which illustrate and document the history of accounting and business procedures from the 14th century into the 20th century. The earliest item is Ms. 18, a Papal bull relating to notaries and appointing Julius de Gentilibus as a notary; the latest is an invoice book from 1941. The types of volumes contained in this collection include instruction books, daybooks, waste books, journals, bank books, ledgers, receipt books, storage books, invoice books, registers, ships' logs, letter books, diaries, town books, tax roll books, articles of agreement, bills of sale, deeds, wills, and many other significant items. The material originated in many countries around the globe, and represents a range of business and occupations from household to trading company (e.g., English (East India Company) and French East Indian Company (Compagnie des Indes orientales) volumes), and from itinerant laborer to lawyer and physician. The majority of the manuscripts are English and American of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The earliest American account is Ms. 75, 1690-1730, Josiah Winslow, Plymouth, Mass.

Flaherty and of his associates Frances Hubbard Flaherty and David Flaherty, concerning his career as an explorer in the Hudson Bay area, and as a film-maker from 1913 until 1951. The collection includes correspondence, diaries, financial records, scripts, publicity materials, his books, short stories, and articles and stills from his films including NANOOK OF THE NORTH (1922), MOANA (1925), MAN OF ARAN (1934), ELEPHANT BOY (1937), THE LAND (1941), and LOUISIANA STORY (1948). Also, files of the Robert Flaherty Foundation, including the later personal papers of Flaherty's wife, Frances Hubbard Flaherty.

The correspondence includes letters from Aleksis Rannit, Alexandra Tolstoy, and the editors of "Novoe russkoe slovo," Mark Weinbaum and Andrei Sedykh (pseudonym of Iakov Tsvibak). There are three different typescript versions and handwritten drafts of Berezov's novel "Volzhskii solovei" as well as manuscripts of his short stories and poems. There are also many notebooks containing drafts of poems and miscellaneous notes. Berezov's diaries cover the years 1944 to 1975. Printed materials include books and clippings about Berezov, also books by other authors from his library. A subject file on Alexandra Tolstoy contains numerous articles concerning her father as well as her work in this country; there are also poems by Berezov which are dedicated to her.

The collection consists chiefly of correspondence and production files relating to the creation, production, and performance of their works for stage, screen, radio, and television, such as Leave It To Me and Kiss Me Kate (with music by Cole Porter), Boy Meets Girl, and My Three Angels. Correspondence (with twentieth century authors, playwrights, musicians, political figures, and actors) includes: George Abbott, Jean Arthur, Bennett Cerf, Katharine Cornell, Jo Davidson, George and Ira Gershwin, Alec Guinness, W. Averell Harriman, Lilli Lehmann, Mary Martin, Laurence Olivier, Mary Pickford, Cole Porter, Regina Resnick, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert E. Sherwood, Lincoln Steffens, Kurt Weill, Rebecca West, and Thornton Wilder. There is also correspondence concerning Bella Spewack's work with the New York Girls' Scholarship, UNRA, and the Sports Center of Israel. In addition to the production files, there are manuscripts and typescript drafts for novels, short stories, and articles by the Spewacks.

The bulk of the correspondence files, bound in sixteen volumes, deals with "..weights and measures, the textile tariff, and other subjects" for the period 1902-1929. There are three volumes of typescript copies (carbons) prepared from Dale's holograph diaries, 1887-1929, with an index in volume one. Among the manuscripts are the following: an account book kept by Samuel Dale of Carncastle, Ireland and Little Falls, N.Y., 1810-1834; and two volumes of Thomas Dale's accounts, Little Falls, N.Y., 183?-1856. These were written by Dale's grandfather and father respectively. There is also the minutes book of the American Metrological Society, 1873-1886 and an English tally stick dated 1377.

The collection reflects almost every aspect of his career, but especially his life in Germany, France, and England after his expulsion from Russia in 1922. Among the correspondents are Nikolaĭ Berdi︠a︡ev, Sergeĭ Bulgakov, Albert Einstein, Georgiĭ Florovskiĭ, Nikolaĭ Losskiĭ, Fedor Stepun, and Petr Struve; there are one or two items each from Vi︠a︡cheslav Ivanov, Bernard Pares, and Alekseĭ Remizov. There are also many letters from Semen Frank and his wife Tati︠a︡na to their son Viktor, and from Peter Struve's family to the Franks. Manuscripts for several of Frank's books are in the collection, such as "Svet vo tḿe" "Realńost ́i chelovek" and "Biografii︠a︡ P.B. Struve." Other manuscript materials by Frank include essays and lectures, outlines of courses he taught as a professor in Russia before his expulsion, and notebooks. There are also two poems by Vi︠a︡cheslav Ivanov. Among the printed works are Frank's Bible and offprints of his articles. There are photographs of Sergeĭ Bulgakov, Fedor Stepun, and of the Frank and Struve families.
