Frances Whyatt (born 1945) is an American author, poet and activist. She has published poetry, short stories, and novels under the name Frances Whyatt as well as under the pseudonym Shylah Boyd. Her published works of fiction and poetry include American Made (1975), American Gypsy (1983), and A Real Man & Other Stories (1990). Her work focuses on themes of gender, sexuality, and feminism. The Frances Whyatt Papers (1969-2000) document Whyatt's personal and professional relationships, creative writing practice, and her activism in feminist organizations such as Women Against Pornography. Materials in this collection include drafts, manuscripts, and correspondence. The collection also contains ephemera and miscellaneous materials, such as journal entries, research notes, fashion sketches, and recipes.
American Gypsy (Sub-Series 2.2) contains manuscripts for collections of poetry written by Frances Whyatt. While some of these poems make their way into the published book of poems American Gypsy, this sub-series largely includes early manuscripts for alternatively titled collections of poetry, such as Lost Love, which was never published in full. Other titles of individual poems acted as potential manuscript titles at earlier draft stages such as "Of the Flesh" and "Electra". This sub-series primarily includes works dated from 1975-1981, and are signed by Frances Whyatt.
American Made (Sub-Series 2.10) is a novel authored by Shylah Boyd, published in 1975. The novel is partially autobiographical, and features a protagonist named Shylah. The sub-series includes drafts for select chapters, and one folder of newspaper clippings originally titled "American Man."
A Real Man & Other Stories (Sub-Series 2.6) includes manuscript drafts for the short story collection under this title, published by Shylah Boyd in 1990. This work features a character named Shylah, and pulls from several parts of the author's life. The drafts include writings in the form of playscripts, which may have been an exercise in the writing process. The bulk of these materials are dated in the early to mid 1980s.

The Coalition for Women Prisoners was a coalition founded in 1994 to address the issues and needs of women incarcerated in the New York prisons. The CWP was coordinated by the Women in Prison Project at the Correctional Association of New York. Formerly incarcerated women held various leadership roles in the Coalition as committee co-chairs, lobby team leaders, campaign organizers, peer-leader outreach workers, and public speakers. Their narratives, writing, and organizing work are present across the collection's materials. The CWP Collection contains physical and digital materials documenting the work of the Coalition for Women Prisoners and its members. The collection's contents include organizational records, photographs, video footage, films, artwork, reports, publications, and movement ephemera from the CWP's advocacy campaigns, programming, and organizational operations.
Sub-series 3.3 contains materials from the CWP's campaign against solitary confinement and their work in support of the passage of the HALT Solitary (Humane Alternatives to Long Term Solitary Confinement) bill in the New York State legislature. A significant majority of the digital materials in this sub-series come from the CWP's process of drafting a report, Prison Within Prison: Voices of Women Held in Isolated Confinement in New York. These documents include background research materials; interviews, survey responses, and feedback from incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women who have experienced solitary confinement (with last names and sensitive identifying information redacted); several draft iterations of the report with feedback from various stakeholders; meeting minutes; budget documents; and information about distribution of the report. This sub-series also contains documents relating to the CWP's general-anti-solitary confinement advocacy, including several banners, protest signs, and pieces of artwork.

Ntozake Shange (1948-2018, BC '70) was an American playwright and poet. The Ntozake Shange Papers include manuscripts and drafts of works; correspondence; diaries and agendas; clippings, programs, and ephemera; teaching documents; personal and professional photographs; awards, memorabilia, and personal effects; and texts, music, and other works by others collected by Shange.
Subseries 1.1, A Photograph: Lovers in Motion, 1979-2015, includes drafts of scripts with edits and additions for a 1979 production, production notes, and a program. A Photograph: Lovers in Motion, a play written by Shange, was first produced in 1977 at The Public Theater as a photograph / lovers in cruelty and was later rewritten and retitled a photograph / lovers in motion. Published by Samuel French in 1981, the play follows a young photographer's struggles with love and creativity at the tail end of the Black Arts Movement in 1970s San Francisco through his relationships with a dancer, a model, and an attorney.
Subseries 1.2, Betsey Brown, 1983-1995, undated, includes copies of the published novel, multiple drafts, and scripts for the musical adaptation, including sheet music and notes. Betsey Brown, originally published as a novel in 1985 by St. Martin's Press, presents the story of a young Black girl's grappling with adolescence amidst racial integration of public schools in 1959 St. Louis, Missouri. The novel is drawn from Shange's youth and experience of desegregation in St. Louis. It was later adapted into a musical and premiered at the McCarter Theatre in Philadelphia in 1991. It was prepared for, but not produced by the New York Shakespeare Festival.
Subseries 2.1, Business, 1984-2018, undated, contains professional correspondence between Shange and editors, agents, producers, as well as publicity materials, travel documents and itineraries, invitations, fundraising asks, membership materials, performance notes, recommendation letters, requests for Shange's critique or blurbs for other works, royalty statements and payments, and contracts received or sent by Shange. Much of the correspondence relates to works by Shange and in some cases includes edits or notes from editors or producers; where correspondence is primarily composed of a work by Shange it has been placed in Series 1, Works by Shange.
Letters written by Millay as well as manuscripts, proofs, documents, photographs, reviews and clippings relating to her books published at Harper & Brothers such as "Conversation at Midnight," "Wine from these Grapes," "Collected Sonnets," and others. The papers consist of materials from the files of the designer Arthur W. Rushmore who was in charge of production at Harper & Brothers and was the proprietor of the Golden Hind Press which printed limited editions of several of her works. Included are proofs of the above works with annotations and corrections by Millay and Rushmore and a carbon typescript of "Wine from these Grapes." There are also a number of clippings of poems published separately in periodicals. Other correspondents include Millay's husband, Eugen Boissevain, and George Dillon, with whom Millay translated Baudelaire's "Flowers of Evil" and Selected Poems." Also in the collection are the production files for the aborted Steepletop edition of "The Buck in the Snow."
William Yukon Chang was the founder and editor of "Chinese-American Times", a Chinese American paper that published completely in English from 1955 to 1972. While running the newspaper, Chang also served in local social and civic groups to address issues facing the New York Chinatown community, including poverty, juvenile delinquency, mental illness and lack of access to adult language programs. The William Yukon Chang papers document Chang's life and career, Chinese American life, and social service and activism scene in the Lower East Side from the 1950s to the 1970s.
The papers of Béla Király include personal and professional correspondence, manuscripts, and materials related to two organizations he was involved with, the Hungarian Freedom Fighters and the Program on Society in Change. The papers are from Király's time in the United States (circa 1957 to 1989).
