Samuel Macauley Jackson (1851-1912) was a UTS alum of 1873, Presbyterian minister, church historian, and New York University professor. The collection contains notes on the lectures of Roswell Dwight Hitchcock and Henry Boynton Smith taken by Jackson while at Union, as well as translations of the sermons of Swiss thinker Huldrich Zwingli, with additional correspondence of Robert Handy on the index of Jackson's translations.

Letters of Italian Patriots, 1754-1874

This group of thirteen letters, one document, one signed card, fourteen portraits, and one portrait medal relates to six distinguished Italian patriots who were prominent in the unification of Italy in the 19th century. The collection includes one letter and one portrait of Count Camillo Benso Cavour (1810-1861); three letters and three portraits of Domenico Cirillo (1739-1799); two letters and two portraits of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882); one letter and one portrait of Giuseppe Guisti (1809-1850); six letters, one signed card, and six portraits of Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-1872); and one document, one portrait, and one portrait medal of Victor Emmanuel II of Italy (1820-1878). The letters are in many cases accompanied by transcriptions and translations as they are chiefly in Italian. The portraits are engravings and photographs.

Letters from John Ruskin to his friend and publisher, George Allen. A note in front of volume I states that "Ruskin wrote in all over 1,300 letters to George Allen" of which these are a part. The men were close friends and the correspondence contains both personal matter and that relating to artistic and business matters.
