Bobrinskoi. Manuscripts consist of typescripts of A. A. Bobrinskoi's writings, including bio and memoir piece about his father; his radio scripts, article and letter of protest. Among the documents there are materials relating to the reimbursement to British citizens for debts and losses contracted in Russia, Russkii Natsional'nyi Komitet v Londone, medical prescriptions, business cards. Photographs include pictures of Benckendorff and Dolgorukii family members. Printed materials include genealogy of the Bobrinskoi family, periodicals, flyers, poster, clippings.

Papers of the American Bureau for Medical Aid to China consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, committee files, membership records, financial records, fund raising records, motion pictures, audio tapes, phonograph records, photographs, posters, publications of ABMAC and other printed materials. Also included are the files of related Chinese relief organizations: Aid Refugee Chinese Intellectuals, 1954-1969; American Emergency Relief, 1941-1946; United Services to China, 1941-1977. Of particular interest are approximately 6,000 photographs of Chinese medical colleges, hospitals, laboratories and personnel and 45 phonograph records including speeches by such ABMAC supporters as Mme. Chiang Kai-Shek, Pearl S. Buck, Wendell Willkie, Fiorello LaGuardia and a number of movie stars

from the period of the Russian Civil War. Printed materials include posters from the Civil War Period.

The Soviet Posters Collection consists of 32 posters collected during 1970s-1980s. Those posters reflect rather satirical aspect of the Soviet life of that period and are executed by several well-known Soviet artists like Kukruniksy and others.

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, a subject file, and printed materials collected by Ermolov. The collection almost exclusively concerns the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War. Correspondence includes items by Isabel Hapgood and Konstantin Nabokov. The manuscripts include English-language translations of Russian materials from the period. There are 2 photographs: 1 of Grigoriĭ Rasputin at a tea party in 1916, and the other of the State Duma in 1917. The subject file concerns the Orthodox Patriarch Tikhon in 1917-19. Printed materials include Russian, English, and American clippings, pamphlets, journals, posters, and fliers.

A collection of letters, manuscripts, and documents of prominent actors, actresses, and theatrical managers. Many of these are single, unrelated items. The largest body of correspondence is from the American actress, Charlotte Cushman (14 letters). Another figure of major interest is William Charles Macready, partly because of Miss Cushman's relationship to him (she toured with him for several years) and also as there are several of his letters. Sir Henry Irving, Edwin Forrest and James Mowatt are each represented by a few letters. A group of 8 unsigned letters may have been written by the famous singer, actress, and manager, Eliza Vestris. One box contains manuscripts of Samuel Coit, Charlotte Cushman, Clyde Fitch, Wallace Gould, Henry von Heiseler, E.H. Sothern, and Lester Wallack. Six boxes contain Augustin Daly's check stubs and bank books for Daly's Theatre, New York, for 1872-1899. This collection contains posters and publicity materials created by the communications office of Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP). The bulk of the collection is in Series I, which contains posters for GSAPP exhibitions and events such as lectures, discussion panels, end of year shows and film screenings. These have been arranged by decade. Series II contains copies of Newsline, a GSAPP newsletter publication from the 1990s. Series III contains publicity materials for the school's various academic programs.

Letters from George Santayana (1863-1952), with Lamont and others, a few early manuscripts, interviews and other notes on Santayana, and general correspondence about him. A series of letters from John Dewey to Lamont, discussing his ideas on humanism and religion. Extensive correspondence with the family of John Masefield including approximately 100 letters from Judith Masefield to Lamont, primarily written shortly after the death in 1967 of her father the poet John Masefield, and dealing with his life and work. Also, a few of her own writings; a number of the letters are descriptive of historical England and her concern for contemporary events. Among the letters from other family members are fifteen from Lamont's nephew, Jack Masefield, and 53 from his cousin Sir Peter G. Masefield, 1970-1983, conveying news about Judith as well as interest in the publication of John Masefield's letters from the World War I years and their continuing appreciation of Lamont's work on Masefield. There is discussion on the publication of Masefield's letters to Corliss' mother, Florence Lamont, printed in 1979.

The papers include a long letter by Anna Staniewska discussing Maciej Słomczyński's Polish translations of Shakespeare, with related correspondence of Czesław Miłosz. There is correspondence, and a manuscript by Valkenier concerning the 1961 publication in the Polish emigre press of Russian underground authors I. Ivanov and Abram Tertz. The extensive subject files are primarily concerned with 20th century Polish history, historiography and the Solidarity movement. There is a section on the 1959 U.S. Exhibit in Moscow and a number of Polish theatrical posters. Most of the books are in Polish and concern Polish history and historiography.

This artificial collection consists of oversized posters, maps, newspapers, drawings, floor plans and architectural plans related to Columbia events, people and locations. The collection has been organized by subject matter.

Notes and books from the library of Frances Elizabeth Henne, including some of her own books from her childhood, and others on children's literature inscribed to her by the authors; material for her class on illustration in children's literature, 1952-1979; and memorabilia. Also, a 3,000 card bibliography of children's books cited in book dealer catalogs as well as a small group of entries for monographs and serials with references to children's literature; printed ephemera collected by Phyllis Yuill Marquart (Columbia M.L.S., 1973) relating to her collecting of and research on Helen Bannerman's LITTLE BLACK SAMBO. Included are photocopies of Bannerman's out-of-print books, a folder on commercial spinoffs, such as Sambo's Restaurants, photocopies of various editions of STRUWELPETER, which contains the Sambo story and a 1971 BBC audio tape recording and transcript of a radio program on the topic.

A collection, assembled by Dutch businessman Maurice Frankenhuis (1893-1969), consisting primarily of World War I posters, and in addition, post-war political and international pacifist movement posters, merchandise and motion picture advertisements, post-war anti-German propaganda, and war-related kindness to animals (horses) posters. Approximately half of the posters ate illustrated and half are textual; there are a few examples of handwritten, hand-lettered, or hand-painted posters. The general topics include: calls for money (war loans, subscriptions, war savings stamps, etc.), war material exhibitions, ordinances, war news (including battles such as Verdun, the French call for mobilization, victories such as the fall of Warsaw, the U.S. entry into the war, etc.), maps, propaganda, plans for the post-war world, recruiting appeals, Red Cross appeals, etc. The majority of the posters are German, for domestic consumption or for the people in the occupied parts of Belgium, France, and Russia. The nations whose posters are represented include: Australia, The Austro-Hungarian Empire, Belgium, Canada, France, Great Britain, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, South Africa, and the United States. The languages used include: Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, Flemish, Franch, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Madrasi, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish, Turkish, Urdu, and Yiddish

A collection of broadsides and posters for every variety of public event, published by the American military authorities in occupied Germany.

Correspondence, manuscripts, papers, essays, etc. relating to Berlioz, and 19th century arts and literature. The correspondence includes original Berlioz letters and over 200 copies of letters relating to Berlioz and the romantic era, written by musicians, critics, historians, and literateurs of the past century. There are many photostats of letters and manuscripts obtained from the principal libraries of the world which hold original Berlioz material. The collection includes much printed material in the form of music scores, published letters, essays, clippings, biographies, music and book catalogues, program notes, and playbills.

This collection includes records from the Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (CIC, 工業合作社/工业合作社), China Aid Council (CAC, 美國援華會/美国援华会), and United Service to China (USC, formerly United Relief to China/URC, 美國援華聯合會/美国援华联合会/美國援華救濟聯合會/美国援华救济联合会). The records contain correspondence of individuals who participated in the cooperative and those associated with it; typewritten reports of sub-units to the parent organization; periodicals and other publications issued in Chinese by the three regional headquarters (the early ones are probably quite rare); publications in English by these headquarters and by American committees formed to aid in the movement; mounted photographs showing the work of the cooperatives and their leaders; albums of newspaper clippings on the movement, emanating from the U.S. and abroad; maps showing locations of cooperatives; pencil sketches and watercolors of cooperatives at work; and other material concerning this important organization which was largely responsible for China's ability to feed and clothe, and care for the people during the war.

James Yen and the IIRR concerned with the development, sharing, and financing innovative methods of teaching, improving agriculture, health and family planning, and education in impoverished villages. Among the cataloged correspondents are: Pearl Buck, William O. Douglas, Nelson Rockefeller, and DeWitt Clinton.

The collection includes 21 posters relating to book arts, and a number of historical rare book dealer and auction catalogs and booklets related to rare book librarianship. It also includes several groups of printed materials, documents, art and memorabilia related to literature, performing arts, and the New York World's Fairs of 1939-40 and 1964-65.

Correspondence, manuscript music scores, copies of scores, playscripts, scenarios, watercolor drawings and other stage designs, contracts, legal papers, programs, clippings and other printed materials, microfilms, records, tape recordings, and photographs. Among Moross's work are the musical play, "The Golden Apple"(1954), dance music for "Ballet Ballads"(1945) and for "Frankie and Johnny"(1938), the film score for "The Big Country"(1958) and for "The Cardinal"(1963), and his Symphony No. 1 (1943). There are some financial papers and production records for the staging of his works. Among the cataloged correspondents are Aaron Copland, Agnes George De Mille, Ned Rorem, Virgil Thomson, and Thornton Wilder.

Posters originating primarily in the United States (with some from Canada and France) publicizing various activities on the home front in World War I: recruitment efforts, Red Cross Drives, the sale of Liberty Bonds, War Savings Stamps, and Thrift Stamps, the YMCA, various austerity measures, and appeals for charitable contributions. Included in the collections is the well-known recruitment poster "I want you for the U.S. Army."

Papers and memorabilia of Schillinger, including a group of rare Russian concert posters, programs, music compositions, published writings about Schillinger, and a notebook containing the outlines of courses and lectures given in Russia and in New York.

A collection consisting of rock posters, primarily from the Fillmore and Matrix auditoriums in San Francisco, representing works by artists including Victor Moscoso, Wes Wilson, and David Singer.

Correspondence, notes, manuscripts, documents, photographs, audio tapes, and printed material of Louis G. Cowan. The files document Cowan's activites at CBS and Brandeis University, and in many other capacities. Approximately one-third of the collection consists of records and studies of the Broadcast Institute of North America. The papers also reflect a number of Cowan's various interests such as posters; the earliest item in the collection, a letter from General Charles P. Stone, 1885, is indicative of Cowan's active interest in the history of the Statue of Liberty. Among the prominent correspondents are Jacob Bronowski, Hubert H. Humphrey, William Phillips, and Jonas Salk.

A group of 45 Soviet World War II posters. These posters were part of a numbered series of 1,250 produced as wartime art and propaganda by the Tass Window Collective in Moscow. The collection is believed to have been acquired from the Rockwell Kent Estate

Konovalov, and Geroid T. Robinson. There are photographs of two actors from the Moscow Art Theater: Vasiliĭ Luzhskiĭ and Ivan Moskvin. The correspondence dates from 1879 to 1950 and includes some miscellaneous items apparently unrelated to Zolotarev. There are manuscripts by various authors on religious and political themes. The subject files include materials relating to several Russian emigre organizations, the White Navy, and Columbia University. Among the printed materials are booklets, journals, clippings and posters.

A collection of 110 Palestinian political posters ranging in date from 1978 to the mid nineties (8 from the 70s; 67 from the 80s; 27 from the 90s and 4 from 2000), and issued by various Palestinian political fractions (e.g. Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine PFLP, Palestinian Liberation Organization PLO, "Palestinian National Liberation Movement" Fatah, etc.). These posters were issued and printed in Beirut, Lebanon, and plastered the walls of the city streets during the years of the civil war, and thereafter. They represent a good window onto many aspects of Palestinian culture, history, politics, art, social anthropology, etc., during the crucial years spent by the PLO and other Palestinian resistance fractions in Beirut/Lebanon.

The correspondence, with related clippings, photographs, and photostats, is chiefly addressed to Magriel from outstanding figures in the sports world and from his publishers. It is arranged under general subject headings. Also, an unpublished typescript by Magriel on the history of pugilism.

Correspondence and inscribed photographs sent to Paul Palmer. Mr. Palmer has collected portraits of film and theater notables and other celebrities since the 1920s. Many of the photographs are inscribed to him and there is some correspondence as well as lobby display cards. The correspondence and editorial files include many of the prominent novelists and short story writers from 20th-century American and European literature: Saul Bellow; Erskine Caldwell; Truman Capote; William Faulkner; Sinclair Lewis; André Malraux; Gertrude Stein and Thornton Wilder. Among the poets there are files for W. H. Auden; Allen Ginsberg; Robinson Jeffers; Robert Lowell; and Stephen Spender. In the area of theater there are files for Maxwell Anderson; Moss Hart; Lillian Hellman; Eugene O'Neill; and Tennessee Williams. Random House transacted business with many fine presses and noted typographers and the archives contain files for Nonesuch Press, Grabhorn Press and Golden Cockerel Press, as wll as for Bruce Rogers, Valenti Angelo, and Edwin, Jane, and Robert Grabhorn.
